September 26, 2005 - 1. Submissions to The National Parks and Wildlife Service's (NPWS) proposal to stop 4WD access to Lighthouse Beach at Seal Rocks have closed
Submissions to The National Parks and Wildlife Service's (NPWS) proposal to stop 4WD access to Lighthouse Beach at Seal Rocks closed on Friday 16th September 2005. According to Booti Booti National Parks Office over seven hundred submissions were received from many different recreational users and we did have a say about the proposal.
Minister for the Environment Bob Debus MP, will make the final decision towards the end of the year hopefully. I won't be surprised if it's early next year.
Nothing changes until then. So, get outside and enjoy Australia's Great Outdoors - we have a right to.
Thankyou to all those people who made the effort to send in their submissions and have a say. Things like this always seem to be a political matter in the end. If we want to keep Australia's Great Outdoors open for all to enjoy then we have to become politically involved, have a say and lobby the politicians responsible for any issue that is important to us. I agree it can be a pain in the arse, but if we don't get in and mix it with them, then we'll lose our freedoms.
As much as the anti social element who appear to want to eradicate humans from the Great Outdoors annoy us. We can learn from them how to lobby the politicians on issues that are important to us - minus the nasty bits of course.
