2. HELP Save Your 4WD Access to Lighthouse Beach at Seal Rocks.

2. HELP Save Your 4WD Access to Lighthouse Beach at Seal Rocks.

August 24, 2005 - 2. HELP Save Your 4WD Access to Lighthouse Beach at Seal Rocks.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) propose to stop 4WD access to Lighthouse Beach at Seal Rocks.

THIS IS URGENT - pass it on to as many people as you can, that you think should know about it.

To save your 4WD Beach Access to Lighthouse Beach at Seal Rocks, write to National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) giving your personal reasons for wanting 4WD Beach Access kept open.

Submissions close on Friday 16th September 2005 and remember to also include the following statement of your choice:-
"That the proposed Amendments to the Myall National Park Plan Of Management with respect to Part B Management Strategies, Visitor Use, 4.6 Beach Access, should include option 1 in order to maintain 4WD access and provide an upgraded carpark and improved pedestrian access to Lighthouse Beach".

The address for your letter is:-

I love Australia, especially the Great Outdoors and if you're reading this I'd like to think that you feel the same or at least a similar way. The website Great-Outdoors-Australia.com was started to share with everyone the many wonderful ways to experience Great Outdoors Australia. But the more I got into it, the more I realised these ways were systematically being taken away from us.

Gates, wire cables and piles of dirt are being put across roads, bush tracks and beach car park entrances - no signs, no explanation.

Access to public recreation areas for the everyday person and families in Australia is being blocked at an alarmingly fast rate. Money collection machines are being put up in roadside stops that were once free for all people. The trend of having to pay a Government agency or department for a permit or license for the simplest of outdoor recreational activities is increasing on a daily basis.

Are we being denied our Australian Cultural Heritage by what appears to be an ever increasing wave of tyrannical cultural terrorists? Don't be fooled by their terminology. E.g. In the Australian Concise Oxford Dictionary, the word "environmentalist" means "1. A person who is concerned with or advocates the protection of the environment. 2. A person who considers that environment has the primary influence on the development of a person or a group."

So therefore, an "environmentalist" being a person concerned with or advocating the protection of the environment should, according to the meaning for their existence also show by their actions, that they consider environment has the primary influence on the development of a person or a group.

What I'm seeing instead is a group of hypocritical, antisocial, self delusionary tyrants, masquerading as "Environmentalists" who are locking up Australia's Great Outdoors and denying the community access to what is public land and callously depriving people of an environment that has a primary influence on their intellectual growth and cultural development. Or is it that they just don't care about other people?

Also consider if you will, two things:-
(1) The negative effect these masquerading "Environmentalists" are having on the mental health of our nation. The frustration, anxiety, stress and resentment that people feel at being blocked and stopped from recreating in the Great Outdoors is a serious, yet little talked about issue. Ask anyone the world over who loves the outdoors and has a deep connection to it, what it feels like to be denied access to it?
(2) The damage being done to the reputation of the true Environmentalists of this world.

Where are the Australian political parties that have "grassroots democracy" as a part of their charter and constitution with regard to allegations that the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) are openly and with contempt for public scrutiny blocking and stopping Australians from recreating in the Great Outdoors?

They say they want to increase opportunities for public participation in political, social and economic decision making and to break down inequalities of wealth and power which inhibit participatory democracy. I believe they have failed and continue to fail those people who in this particular case, are at the mercy of Government departments that appear to have become a power unto themselves.

The Australian public are being consulted too late or not at all on a lot of environmental management plans by Government departments.

Is a repeat offender of the use of this Government department inequality of wealth and power to inhibit participatory democracy our very own National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS)? Those of us who have a generational life history of enjoying the Great Outdoors know from our own experiences of the non consultative, slowly but surely blocking and stopping of access to Australia's Great Outdoors.

If you doubt what I say, go for a drive in your 4wd or 2wd vehicle and see for yourself. It's beautiful weather at the moment to be outdoors and with Spring happening next month it can only get better. Enjoy it while you can.
